ODBC Process Historian

Use ODBC to Store Process Data

Download Now Request a quote

Many companies today use ODBC compliant databases, such as SQL Server and Oracle, to store business data. They also have a requirement to store and use process data from the plant floor, lab systems, etc.

Rather than invest in a separate process historian, they can leverage their existing assets by simply adding the ability to directly collect and share process data from their existing database.

There are 3 components to this solution:

Collecting OPC data into the database
The business database must be able to collect OPC data from various devices, historians and other data sources, via their OPC servers. The OPC Client for ODBC provides this functionality, with the ability to simultaneously gather data from multiple OPC servers, and store this data into the ODBC database.

Exposing the business database for analysis
To use the process data collected in the business database, OPC client applications, such as trenders, analysis tools, reports, etc. require access to OPC historical and/or real-time data . This access is provided via the OPC Server for ODBC. This product provides OPC data access to any ODBC compliant database, including SQL Server, Oracle, IndustrialSQL, Sybase, and many others.

Analysis and Reporting on the database
Trending and analysis tools are required to leverage the power of the process data stored in the business database.

OPC Trender provides the ability to analyze both real-time and historical data in the database, via the OPC Server for ODBC. It provides a simple, yet powerful graphical interface, with the ability to trend high-resolution data for as many data points as needed.

Reporting and analysis functionality is provided by Excel Reporter. This product allows for the easy import of both real-time and historical data into Excel spreadsheets. Once in Excel, powerful formulas and charts can be used to present the data stored in the business database.

    Summary
Using OPC to ODBC connectors, companies can easily store process and lab data into their existing ODBC databases, and avoid the time and expense of investing in separate solutions.
