Transporter

Problem:
How do I install and configure OPC Transporter?

Solution:
INSTALLATION

1. To begin the MatrikonOPC Transporter installation, double-click on the Transporter installation package. The installation package is called ‘MatrikonOPCHistoricalDataTransporter.EXE’.
2. When presented with the ‘Welcome’ screen, click ‘Next’.
3. The License Agreement is displayed. Please review it carefully and click ‘Accept’.
4. The install will now check that Microsoft .NET 1.1 and Microsoft XML 4.0 are installed on the system. These components are required to run OPC Transporter. If the required components are not found, an ‘Install’ button will appear next to the required components and you will have the option to install them. Once all of the requirements are met, click ‘Next’.
5. Setup will select a default folder for you. Once you are satisfied with this folder, click ‘Next’
6. You may now change the Program Manager Group if you desire. If in doubt, use the default settings and click ‘Next’. The installation will begin.
7. When prompted, enter your company information. This information will be used for Software Licensing purposes. Upon completion, click ‘Next’.
8. The install will now prompt you for licensing information. If you are testing the software, select the ‘I am evaluating this software’ option and click ‘Next’. Otherwise select ‘I have or will be purchasing this software’ and enter your transaction number (found on your CD case) when prompted.
9. The installation was successful. Click Finish.
10. Click OK to restart the system, or Cancel to restart at a later time.

CONFIGURATION

1. Go to ‘Start ? Programs ? MatrikonOPC ? Historical Data Transporter ? Matrikon Historical Data Transporter’ to launch the configuration panel.
2. The Transporter main screen is displayed.
3. In the tree in the left hand panel, browse to ‘MyMatrikonOPC ? Localhost ? Historical Data Transporter ? Transaction Edit ? Configuration Tab’. Click on the ‘New’ button on the right to schedule a new transaction.
4. Under ‘Data Window Configuration’, select a Start Time and End Time for the HDA data you would like to transfer. For example, if you would like to move the data collected between January 1 and March 31, you would select the start and end times accordingly.
5. Enter a Description (if desired).
6. Under ‘Schedule Configuration’ select the start time of the transaction using the ‘Schedule Start’ field. Select ‘One Time Transaction’ for a single data transfer or ‘Sliding Window’ for the transfer to recur after the Data Window interval after shifting the data window accordingly. For example, if you are transferring one hour of data (say from 1 PM to 2 PM) and schedule a sliding window transaction starting at 2:05, at 2:05 the data from 1 PM to 2 PM will be transferred. Then at 3:05 the data from 2 PM to 3 PM will be transferred, and so on.
7. Hit the ‘Edit Item Mappings’ button.
8. For this example, we will be moving items from Matrikon Desktop Historian archives (essentially an OPC HDA Server) to a CSV file. First we will add the configuration for the data source (Matrikon Desktop Historian).
9. We select the ‘Data Source’ type as ‘OPC HDA Server’, and select the ‘Name’ button to browse to the OPC Server
10. Select your OPC Server from the list, and click OK. In this case we select Matrikon.OPC.DesktopHistorian.1.
11. Select the ‘Browse’ button under the HDA Server and you will be presented with a Browse window. To retrieve all items, enter * for the Browse Filter. Then select ‘Browse’. Your input items are displayed.
12. Now it is necessary to configure the ‘Data Destination’. Set the ‘Data Destination’ type as ‘Comma Separated Value Files’. Next to ‘Name’ under the Data Destination field, we enter the desired location of the CSV file (in this case C:\TestHDA.csv).
13. There are no tags configured in the CSV file, so it is not necessary to browse. Right click on the Data Source tag list and select ‘Copy All Source Tags to Destination’. This will enable us to map the tags. If we were transferring data to another OPC Server we could browse the server, and tags could be mapped individually regardless of their name.
14. Highlight the corresponding tags in the source and destination windows, and select the ‘Map Selected’ button.
15. The mapped tags (those which will have HDA data transferred from the source tag to the destination tag) are displayed in the bottom window. If you are satisfied, click ‘Accept’.
16. Ensure that your settings are correct in the ‘Transaction Editor’ window, and select ‘Accept’.
17. Your transaction has been successfully scheduled, and is displayed in the main window. Select ‘New’ to add another transaction if necessary.
