Problem: What do I need to know if I am trying to set up a remote OPC Client? |
Solution:
All OPC communicates over Microsoft ActiveX COM and DCOM. If you are connecting your OPC Client to a remote OPC Server, you must ensure that your DCOM permissions are open on both machines to allow this. To do so, walk through the following document as appropriate: Setting up DCOM on Windows NT/2000Setting up DCOM on Windows XP/XP SP1/2003Setting up DCOM on Windows XP SP2/2003 SP1Please note that if you are trying to configure DCOM over a workgroup or across domains, you may experience a great deal of difficulty. We would recommend contacting your network administrator in this case, or using OPC Tunneller. OPC Tunneller will reside on each machine, and translate the OPC data from COM to TCP/IP and back again. This eliminates DCOM issues. For more detailed information on OPC Tunneller and access to a trial download, click here. If you require further information on OPC Tunneller contact your Account Manager at Drivers@MatrikonOPC.com or 780-945-4099.
If you require assistance in the installation or configuration of OPC Tunneller, contact our Support team at Support@MatrikonOPC.com or 780-945-4011. |
