The MatrikonOPC Modbus Interface provides connectivity to Modbus compliant devices such as any PLCs, RTUs, DCSs, and other Modbus devices. This robust server connects to multiple devices using one or more protocols at the same time. Each read/write with the devices is optimized to maximize throughput.

The MatrikonOPC Server for Modbus is now powered by the MatrikonOPC Framework™ - the most trusted name in OPC technology. This MatrikonOPC Server features the following advanced MatrikonOPC Framework™ functions:

OPC Security: The MatrikonOPC Framework™ natively supports the OPC Foundation's OPC Security specification. This functionality is crucial for implementing secure OPC architectures. Instead of relying on global, DCOM based,  "all-or-nothing" OPC data access permissions, this MatrikonOPC Framework™ function offers complete control over item browsing, adding, reading, and writing - on a per-user-per-item basis. This helps prevent accidental and intentional un-authorized OPC data access.

Offline Mode: developed to aid system-integration; this MatrikonOPC Framework™ functionality simplifies OPC Server configuration by allowing OPC Clients to access data from all configured OPC items even when the underlying data-source is not available. For example: during plant commissioning;  instead of delaying HMI graphic screen testing until the end of the project, when all the OPC Servers' data-sources are available - such tests can now be run at any time using the Offline Mode random test data.

Device Level Redundancy: This MatrikonOPC Framework™ function makes it possible to maximize OPC data reliability by enabling the OPC Server to access multiple data-sources in a redundant fashion without the need for specialized hardware and/or additional custom software.

If you are connecting to many devices, or connecting over unreliable, noisy, slow, or expensive links; our SCADA Edition Modbus OPC Server will better suit your needs.

This server has been rigorously tested with hardware from vendors including ABB, Emerson, Honeywell, Koyo, Schneider (Modicon), Triconex, Yokogawa, and many others.

The MatrikonOPC Modbus Interface is an OPC compliant server that enables data interchange between OPC clients and Modbus compliant PLCs. Its easy installation and seamless configuration empowers the user to access open exchange of information between OPC compliant applications including historians, trending packages, HMIs, reporting applications, spreadsheets and others.  OPCs plug-and-play connectivity enables users to focus on value-added business activities rather than struggle with complicated system integration problems. The MatrikonOPC Modbus Interface enables users to create truly scalable systems where they reap the benefit of being able to choose which components are appropriate for their system and not be vendor independent.

"The MatrikonOPC Server for Modbus helped us solve the problem of establishing the connection, which was the most difficult part of the project."
Kolyo Stoilov
Automation System Manager, ABB

There are two versions available:

MatrikonOPC Modbus Plant Edition:  This driver is typically used in manufacturing, batch or process plants.  Communication takes place with a PLC, DCS IED, analyzer, or some other controller.  These devices are often "wired" through a reliable medium such as Ethernet or serial cables.

MatrikonOPC Modbus Telemetry SCADA edition:  This driver is typically used by industries such as pipelines, mines, oil fields, and utilities.  Communication often takes place with an RTU and is frequently unreliable, noisy, slow, or expensive (modems, leased lines, radios, satellite, etc). The MatrikonOPC Server for Modbus has been developed to enable both round-robin and demand polling of RTUs.
