Long distance wireless systems are sometimes referred to as Telemetry or Telemetry SCADA systems. These terms usually refer to centralized systems which monitor and control entire sites, or complexes of systems spread out over large areas (large industrial plants, distributed fields or even across countries). Most control actions are performed automatically by RTUs or PLCs, with Host functions usually limited to basic overriding or supervisory level intervention.
